Whoa water melted the witch?!?! Damn that's some good stuff!

There are only three things women need in life: food, water, and compliments.
~ Chris Rock

Chris Rock has spoken many "truths" of which I cannot get into here......but he is totally right about food, water and compliments!

Water is B-O-R-I-N-G....sigh...ho...hum....I know. But water is soooooooo important and just like all the other unpleasant tasks in life....we have to JUST DO IT! Or drink it in this case. I could share with you the warm and fuzzy graphic of scary nude man that the Mayo Clinic uses to promote water consumption, but I won’t.
To have some one-on-one time with him

Our bodies are 60% water…..yes we are half liquid. Water is important in helping you limit calories, and sugar and salt (yes many beverages have salt). Water helps your skin look good and your muscles work well. Water helps to make our organs function well and keeps us “regular”…. well as regular as one can be in today’s world! In fact, most times when we are feeling tired, cranky, sore and so on and so forth it is because we are dehydrated.

And sorry when trying to meet your hydration needs, only water counts as water! How much you need really depends on who you are….your height, weight, activity level, where you live and your overall health. It is best to at least get 8 glasses a day. OMG 8 glasses….you say? It is really not that difficult, 1 glass is 8 fluid ounces. Ugh that sounded so mundane….okay how about this

                                                                 This little guy is 11ounces

And this holds 2 of the “little guys” (note: I don’t know why I have christened the water bottle with that name but alias from this day forward it will be known as “little guy”.)

"How you doin... I'm 22 ounces"

Not too too bad, right? I once explained this to my husband who obligatorily listened for maybe a minute and then returned to Sports Center and never drank the freaken water!

*So I started to experiment with fruit-infused water. When my husband first saw he was like “Whoa P you made Sangria"? I was very tempted to say yes (sneaky substitutions will be discussed at another time) but I told him the truth. Well I think he realized I wasn’t letting the water thing go so he had some and HARK he liked it!

Fruit infused water is actually very good and easy to make (and no the versions you find with the “beverages” key word beverages at the supermarket is not the same thing).

On a final and most important note, kids need to drink water! Start them drinking it now and they will most likely continue as an adult. My parents made us drink water all the time, we didn’t drink milk with dinner we drank water (disclaimer we were not happy about this as kids, I assure you, but it was water or nothing so if we were thirsty we had to drink water….this tactic works with food and kids too).

When a child understands why they must do something there is a greater likelihood they will do it. We all hated the “Because I said to that’s why” line parents throw at us. I LOVE LOVE LOVE PBS Fizzy Lunch Lab, it teaches kids about healthy eating in a fun and cool way. Try this episode about water with your kids (it works with husbands too).

Soooooo bottoms up! Have a great idea for getting more water every day? Share it with us!

*My husband calls me P. Awwww like P for Pretty? No. P for PITA. Like the chip? No. It’s an acronym for Pain In The Ass (PITA). I share this with you because I will often refer to myself by this name (at least when recounting conversations with my husband).

Do you think we do "too much" for our kids? Difficult question, yes? I do. I believe that being a parent is the most important thing a person can do, but I contemplate the theory that a woman's entire world is consumed by being a mother. Ponder this, when our children grow up they will not have anyone (not even their spouse) existing entirely for them. And that is a harsh reality for them because that is all they have known.

I read this great blog about something similar to this:

http://alameda.patch.com/blog_posts/please-dont-help-my-kids

My mother once told me (and wrote somewhere) that she couldn't believe I used the word can't. I remember thinking that was so strange, but reflecting this over the years I have come to realize that she didn't do much for us (and I mean this in the best way), if we wanted it/something we had to do it for ourselves. We wanted a snack....go get it, need to know what a word meant....go look it up and so on.

I wonder in our quest to give our children the best life are we actually cheating them of it.

"Really LeeAnn it is an inflatable bounce house what would happen if he fell?"

Health is more than physical it is state of mind. Mental, emotional and physical health are symbiotic, they co-exist. Sometimes we are so busy looking down we forget to look up (yes hypocrite as I write this post) and we are missing everything. Today I saw James multi-tasking with media and he is only 4.

And this is where we start.....because we are the guardians of children's health and in doing so we improve our own.

My baby buddy Sharon (you know whom ever you were pregnant and experienced the first few months of motherhood with) has challenged me to go 100 day whole...meaning no processed foods. I am a working Mom and know all too well how hard it is to cook, prepare, fix etc...something every night. However, it seems impossible.... it isn't..... I swear! So for the next 100 days I am going to journal my experience here. I will do my best to video log all recipes and post them on my Pinterest site (board Heart and Home)    http://pinterest.com/leeannwm/
And would LOVE LOVE LOVE  to know what you cook too!
BTW: I know that sometimes foods need to be preserved (think Laura Inglass Ma salting meat and canning) but eating minimally processed foods can help us to stick to the Dietary Guidlines for Americans.

Food is so personal and most of us have "broken-up" with it several times. I have had a very rocky relationship with it all my life, I even cut it out entirely more than once (not a good time)! But like all relationships you have to accept it for what is at it's core and that we cannot change it.

I would post this infographic here but it wouldn't do it justice visit the link! Trust me your worth the  5 extra minutes!

Healthy can be hard! I know.....

Living healthy is hard! It is worth it though; either way you are going to invest time to getting healthy....let's just do it now and not when you get sick!

From Heart and Home is a forum, a meeting place, a bitching session on nutrition, health and all things in life!

I have had the privilege to work with and learn from outstanding people and professionals and do them an injustice by not sharing what they have given!

So here's to us....kicking ass and taking names!!!!
